Software & technology consulting
Software consulting from engineers who still ship code
Independent advice on architecture, build-versus-buy, vendors and technical risk, from a team that builds production software every week.

The expensive mistakes in software happen before the first line of code. We help you make those decisions with evidence.
What is software consulting?
Software consulting is independent advice on technology decisions: architecture, build versus buy, vendors, technical risk and delivery plans. It helps you make expensive decisions before code is written, with the reasoning written down.
You need software consulting when the next decision is expensive to get wrong. Examples: choosing a platform, rescuing a project that has drifted, preparing for investment, or deciding whether to build or buy. We give you a clear recommendation and the reasoning behind it, written for both your board and your engineers.
UK clients often call this IT consultancy or software consultancy. Whatever the label, our advice is grounded in delivery. The same team designs and builds client systems and our own products, so we recommend things we would be willing to build and support ourselves.
Common engagements
- IT strategy and technology roadmap. What to build, buy, retire and hire over the next 12–24 months, in priority order.
- Architecture review. Scalability, security, cost and maintainability of an existing system, with a fix-first list.
- Fractional CTO. A few days a month of senior technical leadership: hiring, vendor management, delivery oversight and board reporting.
- Technical due diligence. An independent assessment of a codebase and team before an acquisition or investment.
- Vendor and build-vs-buy decisions. A comparison of SaaS options against a custom build, with total cost over three years.
- DevOps and cloud consulting. CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring and cloud cost reduction.

Process
How the engagement runs
1Frame the decision
We agree the question to answer, who decides, and what a good outcome looks like.
2Investigate
Interviews, code and infrastructure review, cost analysis and vendor research.
3Recommend
A written report with a clear recommendation, options considered and the risks of each.
4Support the change
Optional follow-through: we oversee the vendor, lead the team or build it ourselves.
Technology
Tools we run in production

Pricing
How pricing works
Consulting is fixed-fee per engagement: an architecture review, a due-diligence report or a roadmap has a defined scope and a price agreed up front. Fractional CTO support is a monthly retainer for a set number of days, which you can scale up or down with a month’s notice.

FAQ
Software Consulting: common questions
1What does a software consulting company do?
It helps you make and carry out technology decisions: architecture, platform choices, vendor selection, delivery planning and risk reviews. A consulting partner that also builds software can carry the recommendation through to delivery.
2What is a fractional CTO?
A senior technology leader who works with you part-time, often a few days a month. They set technical direction, manage vendors and developers, and report to the board, without the cost of a full-time executive.
3How is IT strategy consulting different from software development?
Strategy consulting decides what to do and why. Development builds it. Many clients use us for both: a short strategy engagement, followed by a build by the same team.
4Do you provide technical due diligence for investors?
Yes. We assess code quality, architecture, security, scalability, IP ownership and the engineering team, then deliver a written report with a risk rating and remediation costs.
5Do you offer IT consultancy in the UK?
Yes. We work with UK and European companies remotely, with overlap across the UK working day and on-site visits when a project needs them.
